Bronny James was drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers. He is now a teammate of his father and NBA legend, LeBron James.
Bronny, 19, was No. 55 in the player draft. He was taken by the Lakers in the second round of elections held in New York, United States on Thursday (27/6) local time or Friday (28/6) WIB.
In contrast to his father, who is 2.06 meters tall and is now the highest points scorer in NBA history, Bronny is a more defensive type of player with a height of ‘only’ 1.88 meters.
In the history of the NBA, there has never been a father and son playing on the same team. James senior is currently unsure whether he will stay at the Lakers next season after declining a contract option of 51.4 million dollars.
his son at the Lakers
But with Bronny’s arrival, there’s a chance he’ll stay in California. Because he once said he wanted to play on the same team as his son at the end of his career.
“Where Bronny is, that’s where I will be. I will do anything to be able to play with my son for a season,” said James senior in 2022, as quoted by The Athletic.
Bronny himself believes that he was chosen by the Lakers not because of his father, nor because his father was willing to stay there. He believes he was taken because he deserved it.
“It’s serious business, I don’t think there’s any thought that ‘I’m picking this kid because I’m going to get his dad too’,” Bronny said last month. I don’t think a team manager would allow that.
Many people have anticipated Bronny’s journey to the NBA. But that doesn’t mean everything went smoothly. In July 2023, he suffered from heart failure caused by genetic factors during training. He was only allowed to return to the field in November after recovering.
Next season, it is believed that Bronny will not have a big impact on the Lakers. However, the potential to play with his father will certainly be what NBA basketball fans look forward to the most.
