Alvaro Morata almost didn’t make it to Euro 2024 due to mental problems while playing for the Spanish national team. Andres Iniesta and Bojan Krkic also became rescuers.
Morata will be Spain’s captain throughout Euro 2024. He successfully led the Matador Team to become champions after beating England 2-1 in the final, Monday (15/7/2024) early morning WIB.
“I would like to thank my wife and family as well as Andres Iniesta. If it weren’t for him and Bojan Krkic, I wouldn’t be playing at this Euro,” Morata told Diario AS.
“I have known them as players and I have worked as a human being. Iniesta and Bojan have gone through what I have experienced. There is always light at the end of the tunnel,” he stressed.
Looking further back, Morata disappeared from the Spanish national team at the big event after Euro 2016. He was not brought to the 2018 World Cup by coach Julen Lopetegui, who was then replaced by coach Fernando Hierro a few days before kick-off.

Morata returned to the Spanish national team under the coaching of Luis Enrique. He was even trusted to take part in the 2020 European Cup and scored three goals.
The goal score did not keep Morata away from ridicule. The husband of Alice Campello is often considered not optimal, even during the 2022 World Cup he was the target of annoyance from Spanish fans even though he scored three goals.
The days appear to be darkening for Morata. Andres Iniesta and Bojan Krkic have also experienced this mental problem, both of whom managed to help Morata thanks to past experiences.
Coach Luis de la Fuente then came like Morata’s savior. The 31 year old striker almost always captains Spain in matches.
At Euro 2024, Morata only scored one goal. The ridicule has not stopped targeting him and one Spanish newspaper even called Morata a shameful captain.
